Credits Required for Program Completion
The MS in Healthcare Informatics requires successful completion of 39 credits, as outlined in the plan of study and the program handbook.
Criteria for Successful Completion of Each Segment of the Curriculum and Graduation
- Program Credits and Time Limit: Successful completion of 39 credits is required. All degree requirements must be completed within five years of admission, including any provisional period.
- Minimum Academic Standards: Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 throughout the program. A grade of B− or higher is required in all courses.
- Course Repetition and Dismissal: A course with a grade below B− must be repeated at the next offering. A grade of F in any course results in dismissal. Students who fail to achieve B− or higher in more than one course will be dismissed. Students who have already repeated one course successfully are not permitted to repeat a second course in which they failed to achieve a B−.
- Probation: If the cumulative GPA falls below 3.0, the student is placed on academic probation and has one semester to correct the deficiency. Limitations apply during probation, including reduced credit loads and restrictions on course options.
- Capstone/Practicum: Completion of HIN 650, Practicum in Healthcare Information Technology, including field work and a comprehensive paper, is required.
- Graduation Requirements and Conferral: All 39 credits must be completed, and any incomplete grades must be resolved prior to graduation. Degrees are conferred three times per year, typically in January, May and August. Graduation application information is available at: registrar.adelphi.edu/graduation/application.
