The Online Master of Social Work (MSW) degree is a part-time program designed to prepare students for advanced professional social work practice in a range of health and human services agencies. The graduate program offers the perfect balance of online convenience and personal, face-to-face learning with renowned faculty and fellow students. The coursework can be primarily completed online, on your own time, allowing you to manage work and family responsibilities. You’ll benefit from receiving individualized instruction from our dedicated faculty during live, online sessions. You will also have the opportunity to attend either two on-campus residencies at Adelphi’s main campus on Long Island, just outside New York City, or two virtual residencies. In addition, our caring team will help to arrange field placements for you in the NYC area or near your own community.

On-Campus Experiences

New York Campus

Nurturing productive one-on-one relationships is a vital part of any successful social work career. Our online MSW program ensures you have the chance to form personal connections with other students during on-campus visits, which are hosted twice annually at Adelphi’s main campus on Long Island. As part of these required in-person experiences, you’ll attend sessions in traditional classrooms and have lunch with your professors and peers.

Our intensive on-campus experiences take place in August and January, the week before the start of the Fall and Spring semesters, respectively.

Students attend classes from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. over the course of two to four days, always incorporating a weekend to accommodate full-time work schedules.

In light of the current public health crisis and the need to minimize interpersonal contact, Adelphi University has moved the learning experiences on the Long Island campus to a remote format through Fall 2021.

Virtual Residency

Beginning in January 2022, MSW students will have the option to attend virtual residencies, which will include opportunities to interact with peers and faculty. Students receive a virtual agenda prior to the residency. Current students may be granted permission to attend virtual residencies on a case-by-case basis.

Our intensive virtual residency experiences will take place in August and January, the week before the start of the Fall and Spring semesters, respectively.

Students attend classes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. over the course of two to four days, always incorporating a weekend to accommodate full-time work schedules. Please note that there are required live sessions on Thursday evenings.

Request information for additional details on the structure of the remote format.
