About the Session

This information session explores the opportunities and benefits you can expect from pursuing the traditional or Advanced Standing Online Master of Social Work (MSW) at Adelphi University. You’ll hear from members of the faculty, administration and staff and have a chance to ask your questions. Some of the topics covered in the presentation include:

  • The employment outlook for social workers
  • How our curriculum helps professionals meet licensure requirements
  • Features of the online learning environment
  • Interacting with peers and faculty during on-campus person and online residencies
  • Gaining hands-on experience in field education placements
  • Admissions requirements and important dates

The Presenters

Patricia A. Joyce

Patricia A. Joyce

Associate Professor and OMSW Director

Patricia A. Joyce’s broad-ranging research interests include non-offending mothers of sexually abused children; cultural competence and PTSD; domestic violence; and secondary trauma and ethnicity. She has authored and co-authored numerous conference presentations and academic articles in journals including Journal of Child Sexual Abuse, Journal of Child and Adolescent Trauma and Clinical Social Work Journal. She is the recipient of five grants, and serves on the board for Turning Point, an organization that provides domestic violence and youth development services to Muslim women and their families. Joyce earned her DSW from City University of New York and her MSW from Hunter College. She also holds a BA from St. John’s College.

Michael Stone

Michael Stone

Enrollment Counselor

Mike Stone has over 10 years of experience working in the higher education field. A first-generation college graduate, he is passionate about assisting students to meet their educational and career goals. In his role as an Enrollment Counselor for Adelphi’s online undergraduate and graduate programs, Mike is dedicated to connecting with potential students and assisting them through the admission process. Mike holds bachelor’s degrees in Business Management and Psychology and a master’s degree in Management and Organizational Behavior.

Elizabeth Szpilka

Elizabeth Szpilka

Director of Outreach, Enrollment & Professional Advisement

As Director of Outreach, Enrollment and Professional Advisement at Adelphi University’s School of Social Work, Elizabeth Szpilka leads recruitment, enrollment management, graduate admissions, academic and professional advisement for all program locations. Elizabeth has a 15-year-plus career in child welfare and worked with adult survivors of traumatic brain injuries for seven years prior to joining Adelphi University. Elizabeth earned her B.S.W. from Marymount College and her M.S.W. from Adelphi University. She also holds a Post-Master’s Certificate in Human Resource Management from Adelphi University.

Rochelle Singson

Rochelle Singson

Enrollment Counselor

Rochelle Singson has 10 years of advising experience in higher education. As an Enrollment Counselor for Adelphi’s online programs, Rochelle is dedicated to helping new and future students complete the admissions process and achieve their academic goals. She holds a Bachelor’s in Fine Art and is pursuing an MBA. During her spare time, Rochelle mentors high school students to help them prepare for college.

Aaron Kesselman

Aaron Kesselman

Assistant Director of Field Education

With a background in palliative care and gerontology, Aaron Kesselman has worked in Field Education for over 15 years. He now serves as Assistant Director of Field Education for Adelphi University's School of Social Work Online program. From 2012 to 2016, Aaron served as the Field Coordinator for Adelphi's BSW program, and he continues to work with their City Center campus as an adjunct faculty member.
