Dr. Michael “Dr. Mike” Santaniello has taught at Adelphi University since 1987. Courses he teaches include Critical Readings in Social Science Research, Freud and American Society, Minority Groups in America, Society and the Individual, and Social Institution.
His area of expertise is working class college students. This was the subject of his 1995 doctoral dissertation Beating the Odds: College Attenders and Nonattenders from the Working Class. He recently published College Bound and Moving Up: Why Your Children Must Attend College, and How You Could Help.
Dr. Mike was the first person in his extended family to attend college, and he says that helping working students succeed against the odds is his life’s work. He earned a Ph.D., an M.A., and an M.Phil. in Sociology from Columbia University. He also holds a B.A. in Sociology from Stony Brook University (SUNY).
