James McGowan has taught psychology for more than 30 years at Adelphi University, Mercy College and Nassau Community College. Courses he teaches at Adelphi include Abnormal Psychology, Psychology of Prejudice, Theories of Human Behavior, Behavioral Psychology, Managing Stress, Psychology of Learning, Introductory Psychology and Human Sexual Behavior.
To assist human resource professionals, managers and other business professionals, he has conducted workshops and seminars on human behavior through a range of professional organizations. He also has worked for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Equal Employment and Opportunity Commission. Prior to his psychology career, he supervised ground services operations for more than 10 years at a major airline terminal. During this time, he earned his master’s degrees and gained first-hand knowledge of the challenges and rewards of being an adult student.
McGowan holds an MA in Psychology and an MEd in School Psychology, both from Long Island University. He earned his BS in Psychology/Social Science from New York University – Polytechnic School of Engineering.
